Ministry of Health Certification
The Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act requires all providers of residential services, both existing and new, with five or more clients, to meet the following standards:

Health and Disability Sector Standards - NZS 8134:2001

Infection Control - NZS 8142:2000

Restraint Minimisation and Safe Practice - NZS 8141:2001
In addition, providers of mental health services are required to meet:

National Mental Health Sector Standards - NZS 8143:2001
The Ministry of Health has appointed approved Designated Audit Agencies (DAAs) to audit these standards. Based on the reports from these agencies, the Ministry can approve Certification for one to three years.
EQS achieved DAA status in 2002. We conduct both Pre-Certification and Certification audits for providers of:
- Mental health services
- Geriatric services
- Rest home services
- Residential disability care services.
We also provide training events and seminars to assist in the understanding of the Health and Disability Sector Standards.
